Beautiful Arsenal

February 17, 2011

Does a match of such magnitude end any better?

I will admit at around the 75 minute mark, I had given up on any chance of a win… a draw was a maybe… however it seemed we had blown our early chances, including a cracking chance for Robin in the opening minutes, after a delightful chipped through pass from Cesc.

Barcelona then began to turn it on – they failed, as they only scored the once in this period.

They nonchalantly strolled out for the 2nd half and played keep ball with silly 5 yard square and back passes.  Pep took off dangerman Villa and shored up the midfield with Seydou Keita.

At the same time Wenger took off DM Song and introduced Arshavin… the man who was to score the most euphoric goal in the embryonic history of the Emirates.

I really am lost for words, there is not much more that can added to the thousands of words/superlatives already out there by the way of papers/blogs etc

What I will say is that win will be replayed and talked about when our grandchildren are alive and kicking… it was that important for the future of Arsenal.

If this team can now not go on to lift the big one.. the Premiership, after this boost of pure confidence… then they never will.

Fergie must have ruined his incontinence pants after the ref blew the final whistle.. he knew.. he knew exactly what kind of lift a result like that can give a team.

2011 is shaping up to be a classic.

If we focus – i don’t see why we can’t win the league, carling and fa cup.

The match at the nou camp will be tricky and we could go either way – we win or we get smashed.

All the Barcelona disallowed goals or penalty was correctly spot on by the referee of the night (The nay sayers will say the referee was wrong in those decisions – hypocratic)…. David Villa goal was play onside by the foolish Clichy but overall the defences did an excellent job. Must remember Wilshere strength thrill on the attacking spaces given after he left the match (He did extremely well and it was him that cause Maxwell and Barca back rank to defend in 2-3 players and actually wore they out which Arsenal took full advantages for Arshavin goal). Must remember Nasri just came back from 2 weeks injury lay off and he needs minutes play to get into his stride and he gets better as apparently seen from the lay-off to Arshavin to score…..I beg to differ if anyone thinks that Arsenal be slaughter in the return match….I believed from last night match we saw that Arsenal is about to peak at the right moment especially in the 2rd leg match and I am some sliver ware coming in this season….

    Jack Wilshere… What a boy!
There’s been a lot of shit spoken about how Barcelona bossed the game – but how many times have Arsenal bossed games (Newcastle at home anyone?) not won, and have been slated for trying to walk the ball in. We had MORE chances than Barca, and scored two stunning goals. If Clichy had pulled his finger out Villa would’ve been offside, superbly played off by Kos & Djourou. what else did Villa do? Nothing. Without Messi Barca have zero penetration.

I think Wenger needs to consider an extra man in midfield for 2nd leg. A 3-man combo of Diaby-Jack-Song with Fab in a free role would cut out their triangle passes and win back the ball a lot quicker.

And I would have Theo on the bench. It is obvious they dissolve in the last 20 minutes and what a time to bring Theo on to kill them off.

We’re gonna do it Goons. And we’ll spank ANYONE in the Q/Fs.

hmmm, have to agree with this Hawke. After the final whistle, I couldn’t stop wondering how the “Arsenal can’t beat the big teams” meme would be affected. Obviously spanking Chavs helped, and doubling down on Citeh was nice, but these boys just beat the best team in the world…Sky is the limit, especially domestically.

oops, forgot we didn’t beat Citeh at home… should have. same point applies though. we just beat the biggest team in the world. something is happening with this bunch, you can just feel it.
