Given loaned to Fulham, Schwarzer sold to Arsenal!

August 14, 2010

Just a quickie.. but Joe Hart will not be displaced as the City number 1, especially after his barnstorming display at Spuds today.

Given will be not be a Number 2 for anybody.

City will not sell Shay Given to any team that directly competes with them in the league, therefore… Arsenal, Manure, Liverpool, Chavs, Villa, Spuds and Everton.

City doesn’t need cash, so they ideally want to loan Given out, and have him back should Hart suffer a major injury.

There is talk of Celtic being in for the Irishman, but why would he play in an inferior league after all these years playing Premiership football?

He is more than good enough to be any team’s Number 1.

So… as the title suggests!!

Mark Hughes is clearly a fan of his, and Fulham are competitive enough to offer Given EPL footy, as the Number 1… thus releasing the Aussie to us.

Everyones a winner, Rodney?

That would actually work quite well for all concerned.

Hmmm, not convinced given would want to play for Fulham.

But i like your thinking batman!

  4. Jay said

Given is 10x the keeper Schwarzer is, get the cheque book out. If he wants to leave Citeh won’t demand a huge sum

  5. Jason K said

? city will not sell to any rival, you do understand that dont you?

  6. Frimpong said

Jay – City have said they do not nned to sell or will sell to a title rival or top 4 rival.

They would never sell him to us, for all the tea in china… they have all the tea in china already 😉

  7. Frimpong said

This could definately work for Arsenal and Fulham.

Best solution for all three 3 clubs.

  8. Dilshan said

I suppose so, but I will still like a better GK at his prime and if and when Cseney is ready then sell one on for good money..Cesney does look a great prospect but then so did Foster, so until they do it you can never be sure with GK…but then I will take anyone at this stage…even me…id play for free and will not be tripping over my players

  9. gunner17 said

yeah but i think you’ve made the mistake of thinking that clubs have any common sense.

between the three clubs, they will contrive for nothing of this sort to happen. i doubt any keepers from these three clubs will be moving.

  10. Jason said

    Can fullham afford Given’s wages?
Its not just the club but also the player
Would Given want to move down rather than up

but I will be happy with either Schwarzer or Given they are both very good

  11. gunner17 said

look at city, not selling to rivals! what a bunch of c*nts. i wonder if players who go there have been told that it is a dead end of top-level football, that if you go there and it doesn’t work out for you, you’re fucked and you have to start at the bottom again.

  12. New York Gooner said

Listen up people, the aussie goalie is top rank, if we get him, wenger will have pulled off a coup.

I pray we get him, he is ideal before the legend in the making sczezeny gets in.

To Dilshan, ben foster is a scrawny 5ft 11 wimp, our pole is 6ft 5 and brave as a lion.

Made for the epl and to command his box.

Wenger knows just how good he is, hence buying an older keeper to help see out the next season before the giat steps in for the next 15 years.

schwarzer left out of fulham squad today…

  14. New York Gooner said

    seriously?

    YES GO ON THERE

  15. New York Gooner said

Excellent news, matter of time before he joins us.

  16. Rich said

Signing Schwarzer would be a disaster, he is no better than what we have…we need world-class quality that would make the difference, someone like Given although we won’t get him. If Wenger signs a world-class GK & CB then we have a good chance of doing something…

  17. Jonathon Guild said

    Hi guys and gals

yes this would certainly help us out, help fulham out and help out mancity.

but not over impressed with schwarzer, he was very poor at the wc.

  18. Scott said

Breaking news guys…..Schwarzer has been completely left out of the fulham squad! He is either def leaving or being taught a lesson by Hughes

GIVEN HAS BEEN PROVED YEAR AFTER YEAR AFTER YEAR TO BE ONE OF THE BEST (SOMETIMES THE BEST) KEEPER IN THE PREMIERSHIP. THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO GET A TOP CLASS KEEPER FOR ONCE AND FOR ALL WITH A FEW YEARS LEFT IN HIM. SCHWARCHER IS BLOODY 37 YEARS OLD AND PRETTY MUCH PAST IT.
    THIS IS A NO BRAINER!

  28. Jonathon Guild said

Finny, city will not sell him for any money to a rival team.

  29. New York Gooner said

What is going on here with people?

    Can you not read?

City have openley stated they will not sell players to rival teams.

    So forget Given.

  30. Bryan said

Please No, everyone’s not a winner.
Arsenal would then end up with another average goalkeeper.
I dont want Schwarzer, don’t even think he’s better than Almunia, if we can’t get Given look elsewhere.
I think Wenger is great but he seems to be blindfolded when it comes to judging goalkeepers

  31. Lagooner Beach said

I’m no Almunia fan, but I fail to see how Schwarzer is an improvement. They’re both mediocre and prone to the occasional howler. Has everyone forgotten that the Aussie didn’t exactly cover himself in glory at The Grove last season? Perhaps Wenger plans to deploy him in midfield to set up more goals for Arshavin.

But I don’t want Schwarzer, never did, never will. I’m as excited as when we got Mart Pooooom.

    PLEASE PLEASE NO TO SCHWRZER

  34. Queen of Suburbia said

Finny there is not even a remote chance that City would sell Given to Arsenal.

  35. Rich said

I agree with a lot of the latter comments why does anyone think Schwarzer is world-class as he is not and did you see his Arsenal-like howlers in the World Cup!!! We won’t Given as Man C won’t sell to rivals BUT we need to get a world-class GK & CB in ASAP then i can relax…

  36. New York Gooner said

He has been top 3 keeper in the epl for almost a decade.

If he played those ten years at united or liverpool, you lot would all be raving about him.

Oh come on, that was a one off game at the Emms, i note you don’t mention his astounding performances against us in previous years for both fulham and boro’

    He is certainly not average.

and all who say he is 37 too old, i give you Dino Zoff, aged 40 won the world cup.

and i give you Van de Sar at 38 right now still top draw.

  37. Judith Le'Strange said

It might be worth trying to get both one on loan (Given) and buy Schwarzer, at least that way we have two decent enough players that are a lot better than the ones we have now, and when Schwarzer decides he’s had enough he can become goalkeeping coach and try and instill what a goalie has to do to stop the ball enterin the net. Plus both would have a chance of CL football which neither have had in their past history, so I would like to see a bid being made. Then we need to go for another CB to enhance the back 4 as Djourou is nearly always injured.

  38. New York Gooner said

Hey QoS – read your posts on other (lol) blogs.

    you are a star!

  39. New York Gooner said

We def need another CB, without a shadow of a doubt.

The bosnian kid looked right, deal has kind of gone dead??

  40. V for Victory said

Schwarzer is more than good enough, he is plenty better than what we have.

    Believe me.

  41. Jason said

I am not 100% sold on Schwarzer being world class but I did some digging up and Schwarzer was named Fullham player of the year in 08-09 season, he has named Player of the month last year as well and Fullham conceded 46 goals which was the best after the big five even better than Villa
I dont watch a lot of Fullham but for them to try to hold on to schwarzer like this must mean he’s good

As for given he looks like Casillas to me same shot stopping ability but he’s okay at set pieces and we need someone who can come out and collect the ball

I will be happy to get either really both of them arent world class but as close as we can come to one until szczesny grows up

  42. Lively debate folks.

My view is MS is a solid keeper, he excels in commanding his box, a trait our current keepers don’t display often enough.

Also… I rate Fabianski, his confidence just got shot to bits, but he will almost certainly be starting tommorow, and I fully expect him to play a blinder.

  43. Bryan said

    New York Gooner

Top 3 goalkeepers in the premier for the last decade,
you must be watching a different league to me.
Wouldn’t even put him in the top 10

  44. Arsene Wenger said

    Hey Hawke.

I would concur with many of the views already posted, in that I see Scwarzer as an ideal stop gap until Chesney is ready for the first team.

Like you Hawke, I also saw him play for Brentford last season, and to say I was left impressed is the understatement of the century.

He is easily the most talented young keeper, with ALL the required physicall attributes, I have seen in 60 years of watching football.

The club do know just how good he is and are protecting him from a similar fate that has killed Fabinski, getting thrown in a little early and then losing faith in himself.

Can’t wait for the game tommorow.

  45. chris66 said

I think some of you are missing the point here. Schwarzer is a big dominant keeper who organizes his defense and is commanding at set pieces, exactly what our current lot cannot do. In that way he is very like Jens Lehman. Given is a terrific keeper but those aren’t his strong attributes as he tends to stay on his line and depend on his shot saving skills.

When you look at them as part of this team rather than in isolation I hope it isnpretty clear which one is better for us.

  46. Arsene Wenger said

Totally agree with the last post by Chris66

YOU SAY CITY WONT SELL GIVEN AS A MATTER OF FACT. TALK MEANS NOTHING. THIS WAS ALSO SAID LAST SUMMER WHEN CITY WANTED ADEBAYOR & TOURE. GIVEN HIMSELF MAY HAVE SOME INPUT ON THIS ALSO.
HE SEEMS TO BE AVAILABLE AND WANTS A MOVE, ARSENAL BADLY NEED A GOOD KEEPER, SO PULL ALL THE STOPS OUT TO DO A DEAL. THE FACT THEY MANAGED IT LAST YEAR THE OTHER WAY AROUND MEANS THE CHANNELS ARE ESTABLISHED.

I AGREE WITH GEIR ABOVE SCHWARCHER IS POOM MARK 11

  49. gooner71 said

Give them both a good slap, and all should be fine hawkey.

  50. Jason said

Schwarzer hasn’t been included in today’s game although there are reports that he might be injured with a back problem so not sure what’s happening
Given has been made no.2 so he might become available. If City do sell him to us then schwarzer will probably stay at fullham although this is pretty unlikely and I still confused who’s better for us

Schwarzer knows how to command his box and he can make our set piece problem a thing of the past but Given needs a solid defense to keep him out of trouble when it comes to set pieces
On the other hand Schwarzer is very ordinary when it comes to his shot stopping ability and he’s 38 now Given on the hand is one of the best shot stoppers and 34

    Who should we get ??????????????

  51. gorner said

any keeper out there is still better then whutever keeper we have..fabianski claiming for the no.1 spot stil giving me nightmares *

  52. asiangunner said

Wouldn’t Given be interested in champion league as well?

GIVEN NEEDS A SOLID DEFENCE IN FRONT OF HIM YOU SAY!

THIS GUY KEPT NEWCASTLE COMPETITIVE FOR YEARS. THEY THOUGHT TITUS BRAMBLE SHOULD PLAY FOR ENGLAND FOR CRYING OUT LOUD…

GIVEN IS PROVEN AND ORGANISE’S WHAT WOULD OTHERWISE BE BAD DEFENCE’S.

  55. Rock said

only hope we have of getting given is if he forces through a move. Tells man city ‘look i’m 34 years old and if hart’s the future i wanna spend the rest of my career at a top club, and you’re not gonna mug me of my dream move!’

  56. goonercen said

Schwarzer is the keeper we need and the only 1 we will get, understanding that city wont let given come our way, why? when we sold then toure and the whore? because they are chelsea dogs in disguise!
oh and the quote is from Louis XV “after me, the deluge,
refering to the end of his reign, not nero, its french after all, maybe wenger should use it?

  57. BallaBalla said

the perfect thing would be to get both.
Schwarzer would be played against shiat teams like Blackpool etc., so they can´t make any cheap goals from corners any more.
And Given would be played in CL and againt the good teams in the league, Chelsea etc., since those teams actually attack and hit the target, his shot stopping skills would be superb.
But I doubt that Schwarzer and Given would accept to share the GK part and I doubt that we even get 1 of them. =)

  58. Armourist said

Fabianski needs a chance and constant games simple as, he is a good keeper and like all players needs to play, I have resigned myself to not having a new keeper and whilst

Almunia has had his chance and proven he isnt good at the highest level, Fabianski hasn’t had that chance and he needs games to get to that level.

Cesney has good pedigree his dad was an international goal keeper from Poland, so he is a natural and would have been coached by his father initially as such he has good habits. He is a star in waiting.

    2moro Fabianski deserves his chance.

  59. Stew said

Its funny how people like Finny just don’t get it….

Man City are desperate for the title or worst case CL football, they will no longer sell to a rival and have said as much….

    Forget about Given

  60. Goonerpower said

Should get a iPhone there awesome for this.

To be honest I would prefer given, but I wouldn’t say no to either. I too think fabianski is a good keeper (a little small) but a good shot stopper, but I would rather Almunia to start tomo for the reason you gave, confidence. We don’t need to be hammered. Don’t mean to sound negative 🙂

  61. alexy said

Given is the BEST Option we have. City will not decide for Given where he goes. He decides for himself. He wouldn’t go to Bolton or Fulham when Arsenal says they are interest. There is little City can do about that. Moreover, we sold Toure and Adebayor to them last season when they are our rivals. THE QUESTION IS, did Wenger wants Given? He said NO at his press conference yesterday to Given and Hart.. Can u believe that?? Look at the performance Hart put up today. I dont think Wengers knows anything about Goalkeeping Department trust me!!!!!!1

  62. kieran said

im irish and i want given hes the fuckin man fuck that aussie given has a say in the matter and u can fuck off all ye doughters that say he would rather go to fulham than arsenal c mon get a fuckin grip ,go on brady do the behind the see=ns on this 1

  63. Russ said

Why is everyone continuing to debate Given and Schwarzer, Man City have stated they won’t sell their players to direct rivals so we won’t get Given…even though he is the standrard of plyer we need. Schwarzer is clearly very average, Middlesborough even released him…and definately not the world class goal keeper that a club with Title ambitions needs…end of story! So given that neither of these keepers are going to solve Arsenals problems we/the club should be thinking about the alternatives.

  64. jimbob said

I WOULD RATHER SIGN SCHWARZER OVER GIVEN, WE TRIED TO SIGN GIVEN B4 MANC BUT HE REJECTED US AND WENT FOR THE MONEY!!!!

u now evryone thinks the spl is a poor league but i find it funny how every player who leaves england to go to scotland finds it extremely hard. et me wrong when playrs arrive from england im expecting 3 mabye 4 goals a game but its lucky if they get a gaol a game.

    just think about it

Arsenal are clearly too nice, we need to get tougher. We sold both toure and edebayor to city. Im not saying i wanted them to stay but it would have been better to not have sold them to rivals. Fair enough if city dont want to sell us given.

A cardboard cut out of david seaman is better than almunia and flappy . The Aussie would be perfect for us add a CB and we are title material once again.

  73. Shawn said

We need a real and experienced GK and not just anybody standing in front of the post.Given or Schwazer is good but more please.

  74. lordgunner said

Schwarzer is a the same level than Almunia.I fell to see why everyone want him.He never play in a top team ,his career is mid table team at best .
aND THEY WANT 3m for a 38 yeas olf GK and they get Given.Well i dont see how we are winner ,only fulham are they sell a old average GK for 2-3 M and they get a one of the best GK in EPL on loan.

  75. Schwarzer will be the Arsenal keeper before next weekend, that much looks very likely… Lord, you will change your mind when you see him command his box on set pieces.

Almunia was hopeless on every set piece into the box today, he is a great shot stopper, but an awful box commander.

We need, and thankfully are getting, a big man who takes total control of HIS penalty box.

You will instantly see the difference, the fear you have every single time we give away a corner or free kick will dissapear.

  76. lordgunner said

if he does an almunia on the first match , i will personally come and get you ,shop you in small bit and give you to the hungry doomer to eat lol 😀

Funny that every article says “city don’t need cash.” I believe that 305 million pounds of debt would like to argue otherwise. It was a nice cover up for the shiek to turn loans into shares….I don’t think he realizes that just because you turn a loan into shares doesn’t make it go away. What a bunch of muggs…..City do need cash because they’re blowing every bit that they have on over-inflated players. I give them 1, maybe 2 more seasons before the walls start to collapse down. “We will build success, not buy it.” -Ivan Gazidas
