Wenger “We can now buy any players we want”

April 18, 2010

“For a while we were not investing maybe because we had built the stadium but I think our financial situation is now becoming much stronger and we will be capable to buy the players we need to buy”

So we were right all along, the cost of the Emirates did hold back Wenger’s spending… did he complain?

No, he cracked on and did the best he could, and let so called gooners castigate him for not spending.

Some gutter goon blogs (GGBs), you know the types, run by numpties who think they are proper fans because they spend X amount on season tickets, even tried their best to convince you the accounts suggested we had tens of millions to spend.

When they clearly showed a big debt to be repaid by Spring 2010.

How remarkable, we pay off the big debt (approx 130M) and we now have both Chairman and Manager of the Arsenal telling us how we now have more money than we have had for a long time and we are now capable of buying the players we need.

What does that tell you goons?

What it should tell you morons is that you were utterly wrong, and the manager should be lauded for keeping us in the hunt for 2 titles in the last 3 seasons… whilst his hands were firmly tied on spending.

Who else could have done such a fabulous job?

Liverpool have spent over 200M over the last 6 seasons… and achieved what exactly?

The Spuds have spent similar amounts and have now got to within 10 points of us in the league… and that’s progress?

Was the plan not clear enough when the stadium was built?

We were told it would ultimately help us spend more on player acquisitions, in the long-term… but not until the debt was fully under control.

We certainly won’t be paying silly money for average players, but if a Rooney type comes along, we can now whack out 30 large on him.

The beauty of what we shall spend being the funds are organic and not loaned or gifted to us by a bent oligarch.

Living within our means 3 or 4 seasons ago, meant we may have only had 10M in our transfer kitty, and we spent 10M or less.

Living within our means now and for the forseeable future will mean the manager has a great deal more to utilise.

He is not a miser, as many suggest, just go back to see his spending before the stadium for proof of that, but he is not a fool like Benitez to go and spend 20M on a shit player like Aquiliani simply because fans are moaning for signings.

Get backtracking and changing those stories GGBs.

You were wrong, and you know it!

Sorry, but I for one am not being fooled into believing we are suddenly going to be challenging Europe’s top teams for quality players. We have heard this ‘talk’ from Wenger (even PHW) before over the past few seasons. Remember, any decent transfer activity will need to be done now and completed well before the World Cup as we all know how crazy transfer fees get as soon as a player enjoys a half-decent game in the World Cup.

The doubters (I am one) have not supported Arsenal just over the past 5-10 years as many try to suggest. We have endured baron periods like the one we are in now (5 seasons without a trophy) and so we are not simply all glory-hunters. However, what I and many others cannot stomach (apart from the lack of success) is the constant spin and dishonesty which Arsene consistently gives us.

I have read so many Blogs this morning and I am amazed by the sheer number of supporters who seem to be lapping up his latest set of promises and twisting his comments into proof that Arsenal will be buying Dzeko and the like. Fact, Arsene will never pay more than £20M for any player. He will continue to buy average players with potential or promising youngsters. Of course, only time will prove if I am right.

Excellent post mate. You were the voice in my head with the words:
“…Liverpool have spent over 200M over the last 6 seasons… and achieved what exactly?

The Spuds have spent similar amounts and have now got to within 10 points of us in the league… and that’s progress?…”

Wenger should leave Arsenal. I’m tired of his lies but that’s not my point. Why should it take him 5YEARS buy a world class player? He is saying this AGAIN just to calm supporters. Dein after all knew more more than we did and that’s why he left.
Based on observations, I fear if Kroenke buys Arsenal Fc. The Russian guy should simply because the current board is friendly to the American. I don’t trust them.

buying world class player cost bollocks and in the last 5 year we have been cutting back our Debit by half, that’s was our top priority first and a good one look at loser pool and Manure, portsmouth .the bank and Inland Revenue don’t want football club to own them so much money anymore .

During this time we bought quiet alot young player(less expensive ) but also some top or expensive (ish) signing. Some of them have been more or less successful but we are still one of the top team in England.
Some have to be sold to balance the spending and we sold too unwanted player.Very few manager could have done that.In this time few other club in England have been spending like mad (Aston villa, spud, city,,sunderland,Birmingham) or got the right manager to become better team(everton, fulham, stoke)Add the usual top 4 and you have a league who have becoming far more difficult to win.
Never ever the board told us we could spend like mad after we ve build the stadium. They always say it s for the long term (so we have to wait for expensive world class player). It s a miracle we are still top side and not falling down mid table team.In this time we have our academy finally producing some good player but they are 2-3 years short of pushing for first team.

Anyway i don’t support arsenal not because they are winning trophy but because i fell in love with them while going in Highbury only 4 year before arsene before arrive and enjoy our Wenger years .Some people look more obsess with trophy than supporting the team.Except on the big match our stadium is really a library and is this idiot going to watch the match and pass 90 mn complaining instead to be vocal that are the problem.some of them look like long time season ticket holder.I m not season ticket Holder (yet 😦 )but i m going to the stadium i try to be.
